The "Not a Dud" Guarantee: Our Expired Film Promise
Shooting expired film is an adventure. It’s all about embracing the unpredictable, chasing unique colour shifts, and experiencing the weird and wonderful films of yesteryear.
What isn't fun is trawling eBay, rolling the dice on mystery film, paying for development, and getting back a completely blank strip of plastic.
We want to take the anxiety out of shooting expired film. When you buy from us, we take on the risk so you don't have to. All our covered expired films are guaranteed to produce an image, or your money back. If you buy a roll from us and it turns out to be a complete dud, we will send you a replacement free of charge or arrange a full refund.
How the Guarantee Works
To keep this policy fair and sustainable, we have a few simple guidelines and expectations:
-
The 6-Month Window: Expired film degrades continuously, especially outside of cold storage. Because we cannot control how the film is stored once it leaves our shop, rolls must be shot and developed within 6 months of the purchase date to qualify for the guarantee.
-
What "An Image" Means: This guarantee protects you against completely dead, degraded, or blank rolls. It does not guarantee perfect exposures, accurate colours, or fine grain. Heavy fogging, colour shifts, and unpredictability are the magic of expired film! As long as the film produces discernible images, it has done its job.
-
Listing Exceptions: While most of our inventory is covered, some highly volatile, extremely old, or experimental films are sold strictly "as-is." Always check the individual product listing before purchase. If a film is excluded from the guarantee, it will be clearly stated in the description.
-
Proof of Failure: To claim a refund or replacement, we require proof that the film failed due to age/degradation and not a camera malfunction or lab error.
How to Claim Your Replacement or Refund
If you've received your scans or negatives back and the roll was a dud, don't panic! Just follow these steps:
-
Gather your proof: Take a clear photo of the developed negatives held up to a light source (we need to see the physical film strip, including the edge markings). Alternatively, a note from your development lab stating the film was blank due to degradation will also work.
-
Email us: Reach out to us at info@weirdfilmclub.uk with the subject line "Guarantee Claim: [Your Order Number]".
-
Tell us what happened: Briefly let us know which roll failed and attach your proof.
-
Choose your fix: Let us know if you'd prefer a free replacement roll of equal value or a refund for the cost of the dud film.
We’ll get back to you within 7 days to make it right!
